Title : DESIGNING A X86 CORE ARCHITECTURE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMPUTING Abstract: Designing a high performance commercial CPU is an expensive and extremely complex task spanning over multiple years. On the engineering side we need to balance between conflicting requirements or area, power and performance. While on the business side we need to understand the requirements of different applications from various market segments. In this talk I will give an overview of the methodologies used by AMD for designing the micro-architecture of the processor. I will also present the detailed microarchitecture of AMD's next processor core, called 'Zen'. Zen has a completely new x86 microarchitecture that delivers 40% more IPC over the previous generation AMD processor and will be used in wide range of computing devices from low power laptops to high-end servers.
