Title: Making Blockchain Real for Business Abstract: There has been tremendous interest in blockchain systems over the last few years across industries, startups and academia. This talk will aim to introduce blockchain from a computer science perspective, highlight the key concepts, and attempt to distill the novelty from the hype. We will also differentiate blockchain as defined by bitcoin, from permissioned-blockchain systems based on hyperledger and ethereum that are gaining traction in the industry. We will look at a few examples of use cases to illustrate why blockchain is viewed as revolutionary. While there are many areas of on-going research, we will look deeper into a few open technical challenges.
