VPLab Rules 2021 (Applicable only current members)
Workplace (personal) maintenance
- No personal belongings like: certificates, bank passbooks, Aadhaar, ATM, credit cards, PAN cards, jewellery (or any other valuables, say property papers) etc, should be kept anywhere inside the lab without permission (not allowed by default).
- No Junk electronic items (laptop, USB cameras, USB drives etc.) can anyway be kept.
- Do not keep any items in the lab, belonging to any other person from outside lab., without permission (will mostly be denied)
- Books may be kept, but upto max 4-5 only
- Unfortunately, we may have to do monthly frisking of cupboards/almirahs, to ensure it's maintained properly.
- Please provide anonymous or direct input to the guide/Lab supervisor, if you find anyone violating this protocol.
- No personal electronic devices (except cell phones/mobiles) can be installed in the lab, prior permission must be taken.
NOC/Clearance
- Unless working on a purely theoretical problem, one is expected to make their code executable in Google Collab environment
and make code with instructions on how to run (& dataset links used), available in Github repository.
- Person asking for signatures on clearance/NOC (even for RKA, say) forms, may clear their garbage at their workplace, such that their shelves and desks are clean. They should also give an undertaking that any leftover items will be junked to house-keeping staff, and no claims will be entertained thereafter.Get a NOC form (link here)
- The above should be done about a week before leaving the workplace, and certified by a senior member of the lab.
- If found will be handed over to the security section.
Lab. Workplace overall Protocols/expectations
- Recording of events- meetings, seminars can be done only with prior approval, online or in the lab.
- Technical interaction with any other research staff/students within Deptt/IITM/India (outside lab., to be specific) may be done after prior approval from guides (both yours and that of the party with whom you are seeking help). This is a professional courtesy and ethical norm too. Get a self-declaration form (link here) to this effect signed by you and submit to guide by email, once you finish your courses/compre and start research work.
- Monthly cleaning of the workplace (dust, stains, junk papers/material etc.) is the responsibility of the member.
- Banned (officially, by IITM or GOI) items not allowed in the lab.
- You are responsible for weekly and monthly backup of your work.
- Avoid loud yelling or turmoil (mild exception only during academic meetings)
- Please keep the place as an anger-free zone, to the extent possible; personal obligations, hazards and tensions should not affect you and others at the workplace.
- In no way machines/gadgets should be damaged. If any equipment is found damaged, members may discuss and identify the cause and person(s) responsible for the matter, report the matter; and get the item replaced by financial contribution (even from guide).
- All rules enforced by IITM and Department by order/circulation, from time to time may strictly be followed.
- You may have to participate in an informal whatsapp group, where we often exchange msgs/notice etc.
Miscellaneous
- Not being aware of any of these points will not be considered as an excuse, henceforth; will be considered as a violation. An excuse with SORRY will not be considered acceptable at any point of time.
- If you find reporting against any particular member or incident to be delicate, you may do so by dropping an anonymous paper (although not encouraged) in the office of guide. Action may or may not be taken, depending on the nature of sensitivity of the matter.
