This page will list down the course activities in addition to the lectures.

Quantum Problem Sets (6 x 4 = 24% These are problem sheets that are sent to the class for working out. Discussion sessions will be scheduled for the problem set questions, where the students will also be participating in presenting the solutions. The problem sets will be posted incrementally. That is, the Dropbox file will be updated after the class covers the relevant lectures. It is expected that the problem set questions are worked on as and when they are released, so that the lecture material is also practised/applied right away.

Note: All deadlines are set to Mondays 10 pm The last problem in a problem set will be added on or before the previous Wednesday, 10 pm. The discussion session is scheduled on Fridays (slot to be fixed).

Quantum Quizzes (15%): There will be short quizzes conducted in class. It could be to work out an example from the previous class. They will be conducted once per week. The submission itself will carry 0.5 marks, and correct answers will carry 1 mark.

Quantum Exams :
  • Midsem Exam (30%): Sat, Sep 26, 2026, 10am - 12pm followed by vivas.
  • Endsem Exam (30%): Sat, Nov 14, 2026, 10am - 12pm


Academic Integrity and Generative AI Policy

Theoretical computer science and quantum complexity rely heavily on developing deep mathematical intuition, rigorous proof techniques, and original problem-solving skills. Over-reliance on automated tools bypasses the necessary cognitive friction required to master this material.

  • Exams and In-Class Quizzes: Generative AI tools and electronic aids are strictly prohibited during all exams and quizzes.
  • Problem Sets (Assignments):
    • Prohibited Use: You are not allowed to use Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) to solve, draft, or generate proofs, hints, or text for assigned problems. Submitting AI-generated content—even if modified—is treated as academic dishonesty.
    • Permissible Use: You may use AI tools solely as a supplementary resource to clarify foundational prerequisites (e.g., linear algebra concepts or basic quantum notation).
    • Mandatory Disclosure: If an AI tool is consulted for general background study, you must include a short Declaration of AI Use at the end of your submission detailing the tool used and the nature of the query.
  • Viva Voce Accountability: Assignment submissions are paired with viva evaluations. You are expected to independently explain every step, notation, and proof in your submission. Inability to explain your written work during the viva will result in zero credit for that problem set.
