MS-PhD Admissions - Short Listing Criteria for applications submitted from March 1, 2018 - Feb. 28, 2019

In addition to the minimum eligibility conditions given in the admission brochure, the following cut-off marks and conditions are applied for shortlisting the candidates.

Notes:

  • MS Program
    • UG Marks refers to the percentage of marks scored in the eligible degree (UG degree, PG in case of BSc-MSc or BSc-MCA applicants). In case of CGPA, equivalent marks is computed as 100*(x/y)-5.0 where x is the CGPA out of y, unless the candidate’s University specifies a different conversion formula.
    • For Integrated Degree programs, the overall final CGPA will be considered.
    • The candidate should have completed a:
      • B.E/B.Tech degree in Computer Science/Computer Science and Engg/Information Technology/ Electronics and Communications Engg (OR)
      • B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IITs (OR)
      • B.E/B.Tech. in disciplines very closely related to Computer Science (OR)
      • BCA+MCA degrees; B.Sc (Computer Science)+M.Sc. (Computer Science).
      • For other related degrees, the CSE Dept. Admissions Committee will decide on a case-by-case basis.
    • All other criteria being met, 5% reduction in marks cutoff may be applied only for External/Part-time candidates with at least 10 years relevant industry experience. Candidates should submit proof of this experience at the time of test/interview.
    • Candidates with a valid GRE score and no GATE score, and meeting other eligibility requirements, will be considered only for non-HTRA (i.e., without any financial assistance) even if the candidate has applied for HTRA support.
    • For Part-Time candidates, candidates’ workplace must be within 50 Km from IIT Madras.
    • For External candidates, his/her current employer must be approved as an External research organization by the Govt of India’s Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), or by IIT Madras.
    • Part-time and External candidates must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in an organization, where the work done is relevant to CSE.
  • Regular PhD
    • In case of CGPA, the equivalent marks is computed as 100*(x/y) – 5.0, where x is the CGPA out of y, unless the candidate’s University specifies a different conversion formula.

    • Candidates with a Master’s degree in CSE/IT from IITs will be eligible if: (i) their Master’s degree CGPA is at least 8.0 for general category, 7.5 for OBC-NCL and at least 7.0 for SC/ST/PD categories; and (ii) they have scored 70% and above or equivalent in UG degree for General (65% and 60% respectively for OBC-NCL and SC/ST/PD).
    • For Part-Time candidates, candidates’ workplace must be within 50 Km from IIT Madras.

    • Eligible UG Disciplines:
      • For all Candidates: B.E/B.Tech. in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engg, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology.
      • For IIT Candidates: B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering, in addition to disciplines listed above.
      • Closely related disciplines may also be considered.
