PhD Admissions - Short Listing Criteria for July, 2020

The following are the eligibility norms and the selection criteria used for shortlisting for the Regular PhD interviews.

Eligibility norms

  • The candidate should have completed a:
    • B.E/B.Tech. degree in Computer Science/Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology/ Electronics and Communications Engineering (OR)
    • B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IITs (OR)
    • B.E/B.Tech.. in disciplines very closely related to Computer Science (OR)
    • BCA+MCA degrees; B.Sc. (Computer Science)+M.Sc. (Computer Science).
    • For other related degrees, the CSE Dept. Admissions Committee will decide on a case-by-case basis.
  • The candidate should have completed an M.E./M.Tech in Computer Science/Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology or closely related field.
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree in CSE/IT from IITs will be eligible if: (i) their Master’s degree CGPA is at least 8.0 for general category, 7.5 for OBC-NCL and at least 7.0 for SC/ST/PD categories; and (ii) they have scored 70% and above or equivalent in UG degree for General (65% and 60% respectively for OBC-NCL and SC/ST/PD).

  • The cut-offs are given in the table above.
  • Weighted Score (WS) = 0.6*(UG Marks) + 0.4*(PG Marks)
  • UG Marks refers to the percentage of marks scored in the eligible degree (UG degree in Engineering. In the case of BSc-MSc or BSc-MCA applicants, we will consider 0.6*BSc/BCA% + 0.4*MSc/MCA% as the UG Marks. In case of CGPA, equivalent marks is computed as 100*(x/y)-5.0 where x is the CGPA out of y, unless the candidate’s University specifies a different conversion formula.
  • For Integrated Degree programs, the overall final CGPA will be considered.
